I am a fellow in the flagship PreDoctoral Leadership Development Institute (PLDI) at Rutgers University, which prepares graduate students for careers in higher education administration. Through coursework, group projects and shadowing a senior level administrator, the two-year program equips fellows with the tools needed to be effective in high-level decision-making processes, planning and cross-cultural communication. This opportunity has helped contextualize my work with the quickly growing Minor in International and Global Studies (MIGS), hosted by Rutgers Geography. As Program Assistant (2015-16), I advised undergraduates in course selection and study abroad opportunities; designed the introductory course to the minor in accordance with the university’s core curriculum requirements; edited and developed website content; and mentored students in the formation of a student association and in planning events, to build the MIGS community. My management experience includes training and supervising three research assistants in a cross-cultural and multilingual (French, Wolof) setting during dissertation fieldwork (2012-14).
